Who we are

Welcome to The Bean Trees Cafe, your local refuge along the river where good food and community converge! Since 2002, we’ve crafted a space that not only satisfies your cravings but also nourishes the spirit.

Our story begins with four dynamic women from Hartford transforming an old convenience store into the café you adore today. Despite our many renovations and some challenges, our mission hasn’t changed: to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels like family.

Tragically, our journey took a turn when Hurricane Helene unleashed floodwaters reaching up to our roofs. This natural disaster devastated our beloved cafe, but we are rebuilding from the ground up, now down to the studs of the main building. With hope and fresh eyes, we envision a brighter future for The Bean Trees.

Behind our name, "Bean Trees Cafe," lies the delightful consensus of those four original women—a testament to our spirit of collaboration and community. Vairame Tedesco, Tawnya Yurecko, and Jen Meade have moved on to exciting new chapters in their lives, but Michelle Cuellar and her daughter, Courtney, continue to run the cafe, infusing it with love, laughter, and a passion for serving others.

At The Bean Trees, we aim to be a place of respite for all who enter. Our serene back deck, perched over the river, offers a calm retreat to savor homemade meals and hand-crafted espresso drinks while fully embracing the beauty of the moment.

We’re proud to support local businesses and causes whenever possible. Our prio partnerships with Udder Chaos Farms, Snowbird Coffee Company, The Brown Bean, Asheville Farmers Market, Carvers Apple Orchard, Shirleys Farm, Newport Farmers Market, Black Locust Printing Company, and countless local artists bring our menu to life! Additionally, we cherish collaborations with non-profits, particularly CWEET, which holds a special place in our hearts.

Through every challenge and triumph, The Bean Trees Cafe remains committed to enriching our community one delicious bite at a time. So, come on in—whether you’re looking for coffee, comfort food, or a good laugh, you’ll always find a warm welcome here.

Let’s embrace the journey together, because at The Bean Trees, every meal is about connection, community, and the joy of sharing good food.
